We are excited to share the SMRCA 2026 event calendar. This year’s lineup is focused on delivering meaningful education, valuable industry updates, and opportunities to connect with fellow roofing professionals throughout our region.

July – No Meeting, Rescheduled to August 25th

August – Permitting update featuring personnel from the Sarasota and Manatee County permitting offices.

September – Membership Choice Event
You tell us what topic would be most beneficial to you. Please allow two months for the board to prepare and secure speakers and materials once a topic is selected.

October – Annual Golf Outing

November – To Be Determined

December – SMRCA Christmas Party

Sarasota Co. Building Department: Permitting & Post-Storm Procedures

Join us for an informative dinner meeting featuring Hank Fulmer, CBO, Deputy Building Official, and Brad Bailey, Permitting Manager, from the Sarasota County Building Department.

Our discussion will focus on new and upcoming permitting requirements, changes that may affect contractors and building professionals, and the permitting procedures that come into play after a storm or major weather event.

Topics will include:

Recent and upcoming changes to permitting requirements and procedures
What contractors and property owners should know when applying for permits
Building Department procedures following a hurricane, tropical storm, or other major storm event
Post-storm permitting, inspections, repairs, and rebuilding requirements
Common questions and challenges encountered during the post-storm process
An opportunity for attendees to ask questions directly of Sarasota County Building Department officials

This will be a great opportunity to hear directly from the Building Department, better understand current requirements, and learn how to navigate the permitting process efficiently—particularly when dealing with storm-related repairs and reconstruction.
